Shopping for your wedding dress can feel like a lot, and it can feel *extra* hard when you're a plus-size bride. But here's the truth: size doesn’t matter at all! The most important things are fit, comfort, and how confident you feel.

1. Bridal Sizes Are Different – Don’t Get Hung Up on the Label

Bridal sizing runs smaller than everyday street clothing, so don’t be surprised if you end up in dress 1-2 (or maybe more) sizes bigger than usual m. The number on the tag means nothing—what matters is how the dress fits, and makes you feel. You’re a beautiful angel!!! Start acting like it.  That’s also the beauty of off the rack shopping, you can actually try on dresses in your size to see how they feel.  There’s no “imagining” needed. 

2. Don’t be afraid to try something new

Try Different Silhouettes: You never know what you will end up loving! A-line, ballgowns, fit and flare and mermaid styles can all be amazing on any body type. Keep an open mind & don’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. 

3. Find a boutique you love
Choose a boutique that celebrates diversity.  Do some pre “research” and see if the shop carries a wide range of sizes & if they post photos of all bodies.  It’ll give you a good sense of what they will have for you to try on.  At NKIN we thrive off of transparency & post all our gowns, sizes. & prices for you to look at before you come.

4. Trust your gut

Trust your instincts when shopping! You know yourself best & what feels like “you”. There may not be a huge moment when you find the dress, but you’ll know if you feel like yourself. Also bring a crew that supports you - no bad vibes allowed. 

5. Alterations Are ESSENTIAL

Shopping off the rack means you’re going to need alterations! It doesn’t mean you have to change the whole thing (you can if you want), but you’re going to need to perfect the fit.  Wedding dresses aren’t always designed with curvy brides in mind - or any brides really.  Alterations aren’t all about size, it’s about tailoring the dress to fit YOU perfectly and make sure you’re comfortable. 

6. Embrace Your Journey

Have fun dress shopping this only happens once (maybe 2-3 times who’s counting) but size should never limit your dress dreams.
