2026 Mother of the Bride Trends

Sweeping declaration, Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom dresses are the hardest to shop for. Moms don't want Nonna sparkle dresses, but they don't want to look like your bridesmaids either. We KNOW, it is so hard to find that mix, we call it the "hot mom paradox".

Moms styles we are loving

As soon as you look up "Mom of the Bride" dresses you are inundated with styles you feel like will age you 20 years. We get it, we do.  Somehow the options are either overly beaded, stiff and honestly a bit dated OR so simple they feel like a backup bridesmaid dress.

At our Ottawa Bridal Shop we don't separate our formalwear by "moms, maids, or minis" we keep it all together so you don't feel limited by a traditional "moms section". For the Ottawa Mother of the Bride, we are loving styles that feel modern, confident, and most importantly... appropriate for your role in the wedding day.

Minimalist Elevated

This is for the mom who wants to feel polished without overdone. This style of gown can be accomplished in a range of fabrics and a range of silhouettes; satins or crepes, fitted or a-line. The key to the minimalist elevated style is tailoring.

Texture Over Sparkle
Instead of heaving beading and sequins, we're going to be over here obsessing over texture. There are many different ways to incorporate texture as an interest element in a mother of the bride or mother of the groom dress. Texture adds dimension to the dress and to the photos like beading would, but it feels so much more current.
If you are looking for a dress for a garden wedding, backyard event, or low key wedding, we highly reccommend a floral appliquee texture moment.

Pleating is BACK. There is an elegant way to have movement and flow to the dress while still emphasizing structure. Depending on the design of the dress, that pleating texture can be combined with other interest element and still look cohesive.

Drapery with Soft Structuring

The term "soft structuring" is often what we and our moms are referring too when we say we want a "flattering" cut. Strategic draping and ruching create shape in the garment that emphasizes our bodies natural silhouette without being restricive. We'd call it "snatched but you can still breathe". Ottawa mother of the bride & grooms want to look age appropriate, but still want to get down on the dance floor.

At the end of the day, moms can wear whatever they want (as long as the Bride gives the okay let's be real). You can find gowns that aren't outdated and that don't force you to disappear into the background. At NKIN, we don't believe in a separate, sad little section of dresses. We curate pieces the same way we do all our other departments, with silhouettes, fabrics, and the best bang for your buck in mind.

I've you have been endlessly scrolling the depths of the internet and you feel discouraged, we are exactly what you are looking for. Come in and let our senior stylists help you solve the hot mom paradox in real life.
